Focus on the empowerment of women to participate actively in the public policy arena. Spread awareness of opportunities ranging from registering to vote to actively advocating on public policy to running for office. The creation of this committee is based on the need for more women public service leaders due to our state’s low percentage of women legislators.
Oklahoma is ranked 40th in the nation for women’s political participation. We think it is time to change that statistic! Fortunately, there are many ways to get involved. The OK Policy Institute has created a great resource for explaining in detail the political process. From explaining the composition of the legislature to understanding how a bill becomes a law, the LegislativePrimer2013 can help answer many of your questions.
