About the Oklahoma Women's CoalitionBefore the summer of 2007, a group of organizations (predominantly women's organizations) sent a representative to meetings beginning each fall to plan a jointly-sponsored day at the State Capitol the following March. The effort was known as the Oklahoma Legislative Coalition and, prior to the 21st century, it was known as Network for the Nineties. This coalition had sponsored a day at the State Capitol for over 20 years. In the fall of 2007, the member organizations voted to change the name of this endeavor and address more directly policies and issues related to Oklahoma women and girls. Chaired by Connie Douglas, 2007-2008 State President of the Oklahoma Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., the group drafted bylaws and elected a board of directors in the summer of 2008. By the fall of 2008, the newly formed statewide Oklahoma Women's Coalition was incorporated with the State of Oklahoma and had applied for a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. The board of directors began meeting monthly in September, 2008. They established committees including an Advocacy Committee and a Committee to organize the traditional day at the State Capitol (in 2009 it will be held on February 18). On that day, the board will officially introduce the organization at a 9am press conference at the State Capitol that will feature Lt. Gov. Jari Askins and others.
