Education & Advocacy - Issues

Overview

The Oklahoma Women’s Coalition will achieve its mission to improve the potential of Oklahoma women and girls by focusing on seven issue areas:

Aging • Education • Girls • Health • Incarceration • Violence • Work & Family

Our goals are challenging – but we are determined to create positive change. Our first year was a great success in building the foundation of the Coalition and our momentum continues to grow. This year, each statewide advocacy sub-committee will do the following:

  • Serve as a conduit in supporting legislative issues that are aligned with the Coalition’s mission and priorities and set forth by our member organizations
  • Identify experts and organizations that support the Coalition’s long range goals for each issue area and encourage collaboration
  • Determine the Coalition’s legislative agenda
  • Develop advocacy strategies to ensure success of the agenda
Long Range Goals

Aging
Stabilize and reduce the vulnerability of older women in Oklahoma by supporting policies and legislation that will protect them and ensure they have access to affordable programs and services that enable them to live independently and with dignity and safety.

Education
Reduce barriers for women and girls that prevent or deter access, advancement and completion of educational programs that include Pre-K, K-12, CareerTech, and Higher Education

Violence
Promote a culture of non-violence, support victims, and reduce the cycle of violence toward women and girls.

Work and Family
Reduce the number of women and children in poverty and support women’s economic self-sufficiency and family-supportive work environments.
